All iPhone models starting from the iPhone 7 are equipped with NFC capabilities.
Some Android devices may have NFC disabled by default. If you’re using an Android phone and experiencing difficulties with NFC, check your settings to ensure that the NFC feature is activated.
Protective cases will greatly reduce the scan distance and in some cases will block the signal entirely. If you are having issues and using a phone case try removing it first.
The placement of the NFC antenna can vary across different brands and models of phones
For iPhone Users
To check if your iPhone has NFC (Near Field Communication), follow these steps:
- Identify Your iPhone Model: All iPhones from the iPhone 7 onward are equipped with NFC.
- Enabling NFC: On newer iPhones (iPhone XS and later), NFC is automatically enabled and can read NFC tags in the background without needing to activate it manually. For older models (iPhone 7 and 8), you may need to turn on the NFC Tag Reader through the Control Center.
- Accessing the Control Center: For iPhone 8 and earlier, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. For iPhone X and later, swipe down from the top right corner.
Look for the NFC Tag Reader icon. If it’s not visible, you can add it by going to Settings > Control Center > More Controls, then tap the plus (+) icon next to NFC Tag Reader - iPhone 6 and older: Unfortunately, these models don’t support NFC scanning.
